Introduction
For those of you who may have been directed here from some well-meaning friend who thought you should be wasting more time, let me introduce the cast. I, Peter Paget, accompanied by my wife Heather and loyal dog Jake are setting off on a small adventure from our home in British Columbia to discover what we can learn about the US and Canada. Heather is actually quite loyal too, but adopts a more commanding role in this adventure than Jake, who has the unenviable situation of never knowing what's going to happen next. We are retired Canadians from BC, mid-sixties, somewhat well-travelled, and our vehicle this time is a diesel pickup truck with a big camper sitting on it. We've taken this rig or something similar to Mexico four times, but this trip will keep us north of that border. The plan is to get south fast from BC so we don't get snowed-on, then turn east towards Florida. We'll poke around the deep South until the eastern states thaw out before heading up towards Nova Scotia, then hopefully get back home to Pender Harbour in time for summer fun.
Jake sees and smells much more than the rest of us, but often doesn't share his impressions, so you'll have to rely on us to interpret his sideways glances, raised eyebrows, convoluted tail movements and occasional barks and growls. He is a 7 year old brown and white border collie who we could refer to as our in-house white-collar worker if we could ever get any real work out of him. But no, its all about the game - ball/stick/chew-toy, whatever he can con us (or anyone) into throwing for him....
I've just been asked to keep it short, as Heather thinks you may have something better to do right now than read these accounts, but I must warn you of my habitual verbosity - an affliction I've had for decades. So here we go.....
